Oculoplastic surgeons sub-specialize in the treatment of eyelid disorders, tear drainage system dysfunctions, and disorders of the orbit such as tumors, fractures, and infections. Procedures common to this sub-specialty include blepharoplasty and ptosis repair for droopy eyelids,dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) for tear duct obstruction,orbital fracture repairs, orbit, eyelid, and facial tumor/cancer excisions with reconstructive surgery, andlaser skin resurfacing procedures. Many oculoplastic surgeons also perform small incisional brow lifts and facelift procedures. Both general ophthalmology residency and fellowship trained, oculoplastic surgeons may perform the same procedures as general ophthalmologists.
